This one hour ride is just a tease for the rides that are available in the incredible San Juan Mountains with Buck's Livery. You will be guided through the beautiful Purgatory area on the back of a gentle horse or mule, selected just for you, by our experienced wranglers. Aspen groves, incredible mountain views and towering pine trees will be just some of the sights you will see.
Children must be 6 years of age to ride.
The two hour ride will definitely give you a taste for the area. This ride takes you through the aspen groves and down to the Purgatory Flats via the Purgatory trail. Enjoy the cool crisp mountain air and a little history as well, as you ride through this mountainous wonderland
A favorite ride of the Buck's Livery regular riders. This 4 hour ride will depart at 8:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. and you will revel in the beauty that this adventurous ride provides.
Down switchbacks and through immense aspen groves, you will arrive at scenic overlooks that truly take your breath away. The ride meanders near Boyce Lake and ultimately arrives at Cascade Creek.
Unique to Buck's Livery, this guided horseback adventure is designed for the advanced rider. This ride is two hours long with a faster pace than our traditional rides. A maximum of 4 people are allowed at one time.
The private ride is available for any level of rider. It is a two hour ride. Many people prefer to ride by themselves or their family.... this is the perfect ride for them.
The all day rides can be customized to the area you wish to see. From Buck's Livery we can take you down the Cascade Canyon, over a footbridge and across the Animas River to view the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge train.
We can take you up Cascade Creek or Engineer Mountain where the rest of the world will seem forever away. And did we mention the views?
Depending on the time of year... you will see fields filled with wildflowers....golden aspens.......enormous 100 year old pine trees.....deer or elk....high mountain lakes that are filled with trout and of course those majestic San Juan mountains.
All of this and more will be enjoyed on the back of your trusty steed. The all day rides are for experienced riders
The pony ride is lead by a parent or guide near the ponds at Buck's Livery. This is a photo opportunity as well as a chance to get your under 6 year old on the back of a saddle.
A ride with chuckwagon dinner. These rides depart at 5:00 p.m. After your ride you will come back to the Buck's Livery lakeside cookout area for a hearty western meal.
Dinner is served by your wranglers and includes flatiron steaks or chicken grilled over an open fire. The addition of cowboy beans, coleslaw, potatoes and sourdough bread make this a hearty meal. Lemonade to drink gives it a sweet finish.
Special menu items are available for kids, vegetarians, etc.
